What is Cal Bears History?

Cal Bears History is a personal website, dedicated to the history of the University of California, Berkeley, its students, faculty and alumni. I am a third-generation Cal graduate and my parents’ first date was at the 1954 Cal-Oklahoma football game. Otherwise, however, this site is unaffiliated with the University.

I started posting stories about interesting events in Cal sports history on a Cal sports blog in the early 2010s and gradually became interested in sharing stories about more of the amazing people and events associated with Cal over the past century and a half. I began posting as @CalBearsHistory on Twitter, and am now branching out into this website. To begin with, most of the posts will probably be related to sports, since I have already done so much research there. But I hope to begin adding more stories about Cal history in general.
